Spanish Air Force sends a second C295 to Senegal

28/07/2020 – The Spanish Air Force has sent a second C295 aircraft to Dakar, Senegal, to support pace and security missions in the area.

The aircraft left Getafe, Spain, on 15 July to join a first aircraft that arrived there in March this year. The aircraft support the United Nations missions in the Central African Republic (Minusca) and Mali (Minusma) as well as the French-led Operation Barkhane. Mali – Portuguese Air Force C295 begins Mali operations

21/07/2020 – The Portuguese Air Force has sent a C295 cargo aircraft to the United Nations mission in Mali (Minusma) where it has taken over transport duties from Denmark.

The Portuguese Air Force said the aircraft began operations with Minusma on 15 July after a handover ceremony from the Danish Air Force. Denmark has contributed to Minusma since 2014 and has three times provided a C-130J transport aircraft for the mission (2014, 2017 and 2019/2020). US donates more vehicles and equipment to Chad’s military

21/07/2020 – The United States has handed over 28 armoured vehicles, ten trucks, eight water tankers and other equipment to Chad’s military as part of continued support for its anti-terrorism efforts in the Sahel.

The United States Embassy in Chad said it handed over the vehicles on 3 July. It said the materiel was worth $8.5 million and will go to Chad’s Special Anti-Terrorism Group (SATG), which contributes to the G5 Sahel force comprising Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, and Chad. 18/07/2020 – La mission de médiation de la Communauté économique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), présente au Mali depuis mercredi, continue à se heurter à l’intransigeance du Mouvement du 5-Juin – Rassemblement des forces patriotiques (M5-RFP) qui réclame toujours la démission du président Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, ont indiqué vendredi plusieurs sources proches des négociations.Selon elles, le M5-RFP refuse de faire des concessions sur ses revendications que sont la démission du président de la République, l’ouverture d’une transition démocratique, la poursuite des « commanditaires de crimes » lors des manifestations du 10-12 juillet et la libération immédiate de l’opposant Soumaïla Cissé, enlevé dans le centre du pays voici quatre mois. Estonia / Mali: Foreign, defense ministers emphasize need to stabilize Sahel region

13/06/2020 – Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Reinsalu (Isamaa) and Minister of Defense Jüri Luik (Isamaa) on Friday attended a high-level meeting of the Coalition for the Sahel, where they expressed support for the coalition and emphasized the need to stabilize the Sahel region.

The agenda for Friday’s meeting, which was also attended by foreign and defense ministers from France, the U.K-, the U.S. and the G5 Sahel states⁠ — Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad⁠ — as well as other parties and representatives operating in the Sahel region, included military operations in the Sahel region, providing security support to the G5 Sahel countries and engaging the international community, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs press release.

Why the UK May Be Sending Troops to Mali

23/03/2020 – The UK government’s decision to deploy an additional 250 soldiers to join the United Nations mission in Mali (known as MINUSMA) might be in Britain’s security interests.
