07/06/2020 – Al Shabaab, as an insurgent terrorist outfit, has primarily been operating from Somalia in the Horn of Africa. The merger of Al Shabaab with Al Qaeda, a multinational terrorist organisation, in 2012 has enhanced its strength. After completing twenty years of its existence in April 2020, it is showing no signs of waning. Al Shabaab’s  endeavours to consolidate its hold over the parts of southern and central Somalia and extract taxes from people is weakening the hold of Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), established in 2012. Algeria Flexes Military Muscles With Base on Moroccan Border

28/06/2020 – Algeria is flexing its military muscles by building a new army base on the Moroccan border. Construction on the new strategic base has already begun, according to Algerian news outlets.

Libya – Foreign Minister denies allowing foreign military bases on Libyan territory

2019/19/02 – Foreign Minister Mohamed Sayala stated Sunday that Libyans reject the existence of any military base on Libyan territory, explaining that their request is limited to providing assistance to enhance the Libyan force’s capacities.

Sayala’s statements came in response to a question by Russian news agency Sputnik about the US intention to establish a military base in Libya, saying « Libya welcomes any actors working to raise the efficiency of the Libyan security forces ».

The head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, requested Saturday, the commander of AFRICOM, Thomas Waldhauser, to prepare a field training program for Libyan military units under the supervision of Africom trainers.

Saudis maneuver for dominance in Africa

2019/06/02 – Saudi Arabia stumbled to the finish line in 2018. Its war in Yemen got messier. Its reputation was severely damaged by the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
