Morocco, Mauritania Signal Warming Relations With FM Visit
27/12/2019 – Since the election of Mauritania’s new president, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, in July, relations between Morocco and Mauritania have improved significantly.
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita met with his Mauritanian counterpart, Smael Ould Cheikh Ahmed, on Friday, December 20, at the eighth African Students and Youth Summit in Rabat. BP confirms gas resources offshore Mauritania, Senegal
19/12/2019 – UK-based oil and gas company BP has confirmed the potential of gas resources during its three-well drilling campaign offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

19/11/2019 – President Mohamed Weld Al Ghazwani of Mauritania said the world is scene of widespread opinions sceptical of UN Capability and its vital role in the world. ‘Fighting terrorism requires a solution to the crisis in Libya, to restore peace and stability in the entire region, Al Ghazwani said remarks before the Dakar Forum for Peace and Security in Africa, which kicked off here on Monday.
The President indicated that there were a number of initiatives aimed at achieving peace and stability in the region such the Group 5 in the Sahel region, Nouakchott Track and Economic Community Initiative of West Africa, explaining the challenges faced by these initiatives in a space of multiple threats and complexities. He welcomed the initiative brought forward by Germany and France in August within what is known as Partnership for Peace and Stability in the Sahel Region which involves extension of terrorism combating effort in the Sahel region to include west African countries.

KSrelief signs three agreements with MWL to implement health projects in Mauritania, Niger and Morocco
16/09/2019 – King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) signed last week three agreements with the World Association for Relief, Care and Development of the Muslim World League to implement projects of open heart surgery, cardiac catheterization and thyroid tumors in the Republic of Mauritania, Niger and the Kingdom of Morocco.
The agreements were signed by Assistant General Supervisor at KSrelief for Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel bin Jamaan Al-Ghamdi and Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Matar, a representative of the International Organization for Relief, Care and Development at KSrelief in Riyadh.

UAE, Mauritania review Defence cooperation
12/09/2019 – Matar Salim Ali Al Dhaheri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, received at his office today Lieutenant-General Mohamed Cheikh Ould Mohamed Lemine, Mauritanian Army Chief-of-Staff, and his accompanying delegation, where they discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the defence field.The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and ways of strengthening them, exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, in addition to a number of issues of common concern.
The meeting was attended by a number of senior defence officials.

AMU revamps Maghreb railway project
2018/19/02 – The Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) has received a grant from the African Development Bank to modernise an integrated regional railway network between Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, a step analysts said was crucial to strengthening ties in North Africa.“The idea of a railway linking Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco is very old,” said Yacine Bendjaballah, CEO of the National Company for Rail Transport. “Transport officials from the AMU have discussed it many times when they’ve met.” Continuer à lire … « AMU revamps Maghreb railway project »
Mauritania reopens 4G spectrum sale
2019/13/02 – Mauritania’s Regulatory Authority (Autorite de Regulation, ARE) has relaunched its tender for 4G spectrum after receiving no bids in its original auction. Like the previous sale, which was launched in October 2018, three 4G licences are being offered to the incumbent operators, while a fourth concession, which covers 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, is aimed at a new market entrant. The deadline for applications has been set at 13 March.
Mauritania is currently home to three active cellcos: Mauritel, Chinguitel and Mattel. The incumbents have in the past been subject to fines from the ARE due to problems with their quality of service (QoS) levels. It has been speculated that the failure of the first tender was due to operators protesting at the fines that have been handed down.
