20/01/2020 – Since the 2011 NATO-backed revolt in Libya that ended 42 years of rule by strongman Muammar Qaddafi, the oil-rich North African country has been in perpetual turmoil. The latest phase began in April, when military commander Khalifa Haftar and his forces marched on the capital Tripoli determined to unseat the internationally backed government located there. The battle for the city accelerated interventions in Libya by Russia and neighboring countries as they maneuver to shape the future of the OPEC member state. More than 2,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands displaced by the fighting for Tripoli. 04/01/2020- Khalifa Haftar declared on Friday military mobilization and “Jihad” against Turkey’s plan to send troops to Libya to support the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).
Khalifa Haftar declared the mobilization in a televised speech, saying the ongoing fighting will intensify, and the battle “is no longer for the liberation of the capital.”
He added that all Arab countries should help his forces to uproot the Turkish intervention and what he described as the adventures of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Libya.

2019/01/15 – The East-based Libyan self-styled army forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar have launched a military operation in southern Libya to secure oil and gas facilities and fight extremists, a spokesman said on Tuesday.
“We announce the start of an operation to liberate the south,” the spokesman Ahmed Mismari told reporters in Benghazi.
He gave few other details about the initiative, but any advance on oilfields in the south by Haftar’s forces could be opposed by Libya’s internationally recognised administration in Tripoli, which lies in the west of the country.
