2018/09/11 – Russia’s defense minister Sergei Shoigu met with the Libyan commander of the self-styled army Khalifa Haftar in Moscow on Wednesday, Russian media reported.
Shoigu and Haftar discussed the Libyan crisis and the security situation in the Middle East and North Africa, Russian news agencies said, citing a defense ministry statement.
Italy will host an international conference on Libya on Nov. 12 and 13, which Haftar will attend, Italy has said.
Haftar’s office has not confirmed his attendance yet, but said the meeting in Moscow had covered ways to end Libya’s crisis and the fight against terrorism.

2018/09/15 – Libya is set to miss a mid-September deadline to fix a framework for elections in December, part of a U.N.-led effort to reunify and stabilize a country that splintered after the Nato-backed uprising which overthrew Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

2018/09/15 – The commander of the Libyan self-styled army Khalifa Haftar asked the Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Milanesi, when the two met near Benghazi earlier this week, to change the current ambassador in Libya, Giuseppe Perrone, after discussions with French intelligence, a source close to Haftar told Libyan Express.
The source – an MP in Tobruk – said the request was last Monday in the meeting the two men held in Rajma, where Haftar insisted Perrone must go so his relations with Italy can become more close.

2018/09/11 – On the night of September 11, 2012, the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi was attacked and burned. The US Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, who was visiting Libya’s eastern city, and three other US citizens lost their lives. At first, the attack was thought to have been carried out by a mob angry about a video made in the United States that mocked Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.
