Mali /G5 Sahel – Saudis pledge $100 million to African anti-jihadist force – Mali

04/12/17 – Saudi Arabia has pledged $100 million (£74.2 million) to a new regional military force battling jihadist groups in West Africa’s Sahel region, force member Mali said on Monday.

The contribution would be a major boost to the cash-strapped force and bring pledged commitments to more than half the roughly $500 million the G5 Sahel says it needs for its first year of operations. Iran, Tunisia sign MoU on direct exchange of news

18/11/17 – The MoU was signed by IRNA Chief Mohammad Khoddadi and TAP’s President Lotfi Arfaoui in Tunis on Friday.

In Sunni North Africa, fears of Iran’s Shi’ite shadow

 These are challenging times for North Africa’s Muslim governments. Even as Daesh is ousted from its strongholds in Iraq and Syria, the extremist group is continuing its battle against authorities in countries like Morocco, Algeria and Egypt.

On Oct. 16, the Egyptian military announced that six soldiers and at least 24 Daesh militants were killed in attacks on military outposts in North Sinai. That same weekend, Moroccan police arrested 11 members of an “extremely dangerous” Daesh-linked cell and seized chemical products used to make bombs. Niger – Iran, Niger stress counter-terrorism co-op

Niami 27/10/2017 – Iran’s Foregin Minister and the President of Niger emphasized the necessity of boosting political relations and cooperation between Iran and Niger on fighting terrorism.

Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is visiting the western African country, Niger, met President Mahamadou Issoufou on Thursday evening. The two sides explored bilateral relations, and the ways for enhancing political, economic and trade ties, as well as regional and international issues, including fighting terrorism.

The meeting was followed by the opening ceremony of a joint commercial forum and a meeting with the Nigerien Foreign Minister Ibrahim Yacouba.

Earlier on Thursday, Iran’s Foregin Minister had met with some other senior officials of Niger, including its Prime Minister Brigi Rafini.

Visiting the Republic of Niger is Zarif’s final stop of his African tour, which started Saturday. He has also visited South Africa and Uganda and held talks with senior officials of the two countries.

Niger – Iranian FM, Niger’s PM Discuss Bilateral Ties

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has held talks with Brigi Rafini, the prime minister of Niger, in the African state’s capital of Niamey.During the Thursday meeting, the two sides conferred on the expansion of bilateral relations between Iran and Niger, particularly in the economic field.
