Algeria Demands Adherence to UN Resolutions Banning Arms to Libya

16/09/2019 – Algeria has called for a ceasefire and cessation of all forms of military escalation in Libya. This came at a visit the UN Envoy Ghasan Salame made to the country. Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Bugadoum said, at a meeting with the UN Envoy, his country ‘demands a ceasefire, supports a Libya-Libyan solution and respects UN Security Council’s resolutions regarding weapons ban . He also said Algeria supported work of the UN Support Mission in Libya. On his part, Salame thanked Algeria for its support of a peaceful solution, and repeated a call for all Libyan parties to be realistic and return to the peaceful track.

Niger – Foreign and defence ministers of Libya’s neighbours to meet in Niamey on security issues

2018/11/12 – Foreign and defence ministers of Libya’s neighbouring countries will hold a meeting in the Nigerian capital Niamey next Friday, to discuss the security of common borders.

According to sources, the meeting will consider the joint agreement on securing borders, signed last May, between Sudan, Libya, Niger, and Chad, as well as combating organized and transnational crime in the Sahel.

The Sudanese capital, Khartoum has hosted last week, a ministerial meeting of Libyan neighbours, attended by UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame, and with the participation of the Arab League, the European Union, and the African Union, as well as France and Italy.

Libya – Salame Affirms Difficulty to Hold Elections in Libya

2018/07/17 – Head of the UN Mission to Libya Ghassan Salame has said that “without the right conditions, it would be unwise to conduct elections” in the country.

L’Algérie et l’Italie partagent l’urgence et l’exigence de la stabilisation de la Libye (MAE italien)

2018/01/22- L’Algérie et l’Italie partagent « l’urgence et l’exigence » de la stabilisation de la Libye, a soutenu samedi à Alger le ministre italien des Affaires étrangères, Angelino Alfano.

« Nous partageons l’urgence et l’exigence de la stabilisation de la Libye, et nous partageons également (le principe) que la destinée de la Libye doit être entre les mains des libyens », a-t-il déclaré à la presse, au terme de ses entretiens avec le ministre des Affaires étrangères, Abdelkader Messahel, réitérant son soutien à l’envoyé spécial de l’ONU en Libye, Ghassan Salamé.
