Chad plans military deployment to Mali-Burkina Faso-Niger tri-border area

21/01/2020 – Chad’s defense minister discussed plans to deploy a battalion of military personnel to the Mali-Burkina Faso-Niger tri-border area with his French and Swedish counterparts on Monday, January 20, according to reports.

France’s Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly arrived in Chad’s capital N’Djamena on Sunday to begin a two-day visit to the Sahel region accompanied by Sweden’s Minister for Defence, Peter Hultqvist, the French ministry said in a statement. Mali – Canada sending police to Mali as part of peacekeeping mission

2018/08/05 – Canada will deploy up to 20 civilian police officers to support both the United Nations peacekeeping mission and the European Union training mission in Mali.
The contribution is in addition to the 250 aircrew and soldiers already assigned to the mission’s military helicopter detachment. Britain risks ‘open ended’ conflict in Mali in bid to protect European security

2018/07/21 – British helicopters have deployed to Mali in support of a French counter-terrorism operation amid warnings of being dragged into ‘open-ended’ conflict.
Three RAF Chinook helicopters supported by 90 military personnel have been sent to north-west Africa to assist French forces in their fight against Islamist insurgents.
The British helicopters, from RAF Odiham in Hampshire, will provide logistical and troop movement support. However, experts fear the deployment could mark the start of an open-ended commitment to a new military campaign.
