Al-Sarraj, EU and Germany’s ambassadors discuss security situation in Libya

05/12/2019 – The Head of Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj discussed the latest developments on political and security levels in Libya with European Union (EU) and Germany’s ambassadors in the presence of Libya’s ambassadors to the EU and Germany.

Al-Sarraj hailed the EU’s efforts to help Libyans end the ongoing conflict, praising Germany’s preparations for the upcoming international conference on Libya in its capital Berlin.

He also reiterated his government’s commitment to the political agreement and its entities as the only legitimate ones in Libya and as the ones entitled to engage in any negotiations or agreements as per Security Council resolutions.

« Any ceasefire agreements are tied to the withdrawal of attacking forces to their previous positions and to the participation of all stakeholders in the upcoming Berlin international conference. » Al-Sarraj added.

Meanwhile, the two ambassadors reiterated that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis, stressing the need for political dialogue and that the EU as well as Germany reject attacks on civilians and violations of UN arms embargo on Libya, according to Al-Sarraj’s media office.

The German ambassador also talked with Al-Sarraj about the preparations and communications with regional and international parties for the upcoming international conference on Libya in Berlin.
