15/07/2019 – The Russian newspaper Kommersant has published a report on the ongoing negotiations between the UAE and Niger, regarding the establishment of an Emirati military base on the territory of Niger.
The newspaper added that the UAE’s aim is to get a foothold near the Libyan border in order to support the forces of Haftar, disclosing that negotiations are in their final stages.
An expert at the Russian Council for International Affairs was quoted as saying that the establishment of the base is not only to monitor the situation in Libya but also to guarantee secret air routes to Libya and the possibility of transferring special forces there.
