Saudi Crown Prince to Visit Mauritania, Algeria

2018/02/12 – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, will kick off on Sunday a visit to each of Mauritania and Algeria as part of his Arab tour.

The monarch had departed earlier Argentina where he has taken part in the G20 summit.

He had embarked on his Arab tour in later November, visiting each of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and Tunisia.

Prince Mohammed will arrive in Algeria on Sunday and depart on Monday.

The Algerian presidency announced the Crown Prince’s official visit, saying he will head a high-ranking delegation.

The trip is a reflection of the strong fraternal ties that bind Algeria and Saudi Arabia, it added.

The visit is aimed at bolstering the unique ties enjoyed between Algiers and Riyadh, continued the presidency. It will also be an opportunity to launch new partnership and investment projects and to discuss political and economic issues of interest.

Trade exchange between Saudi Arabia and Algeria amounts to $619 million. Saudi investments in the North African country have reached $3 billion.

Saudi businessmen have on several occasions expressed their willingness to further their investments in Algeria, hoping that the local authorities would remove certain restrictions linked to foreign investments in their country.

In Mauritania, civil society groups welcomed Prince Mohammed’s upcoming visit, deeming it “historic” for ties between the two countries.

The Crown Prince is scheduled to hold talks with President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, who is set to throw a luncheon banquet in his honor in Nouakchott.

Sources revealed that the two sides are expected to sign a number of agreements aimed at bolstering cooperating between Mauritania and Saudi Arabia.
