2018/06/29 – Lithium oxide from the Danaya pegmatite has been added to the Goulamina project resource.
Birimian Ltd has boosted the mineral resource by 59% at its Goulamina Lithium Project in southern Mali.
The inferred resource now stands at 103.2 million tonnes at 1.34% lithium oxide and includes 38.2 million tonnes at 1.14% from the Danaya pegmatite.
Contained lithium oxide has been increased by 49% to 1.39 million tonnes from 931,000 tonnes.
“Meaningful additional resource”
Birimian’s executive director and CEO Greg Walker, said: “The additional resource in the Danaya pegmatite field is very meaningful, as it represents an exciting second zone for development consideration at Goulamina.”
Birimian shares were up 6% to 55.5 cents intra-day.
In late April 2018, the company announced a revised resource of 65 million tonnes at 1.43% Li2O, doubling the previously resource.
Danaya resource included
At the time drilling was ongoing at the Yando and Danaya pegmatites, which have since been confirmed as a continuous zone now known as Danaya.
The updated resource, which was prepared by Cube Consulting Pty Ltd, takes into account the results of this drilling.

Walker said the updated resource provided flexibility as Birimian also assessed the Main, West and Sangar zones, which would form the basis of the initial pit design for the project.
“Additional drilling will be required to provide a more detailed understanding of the true potential of Danaya.
“We are delighted with the ongoing results of our exploration strategy and pleased that this latest resource upgrade has increased the mineral resource at Goulamina to more than 100 million tonnes, a meaningful benchmark for project scale.”
Potential to expand resource
The drilling program identified multiple separate, near vertically-dipping spodumene-bearing pegmatite intrusions, all of which remain open to the north and south and at depth.
Twelve of the largest pegmatites at Danaya have been investigated to-date, nine of which form the Danaya resource.
Considerable potential exists to further expand the current resource.
It also seems likely that at least some of the pegmatites intersect or coalesce with the Sangar I or Sangar II pegmatites at their northern extents.
“We look forward to advancing the project with the upcoming release of the maiden ore reserve and project PFS,” Walker added.
Birimian is planning a further campaign after the rainy season ends in Mali.
