Niger – G5 Police Workshop in Niamey

2018/04/11 – The goal of the three day workshop, under the Nigerien tenure of the presidency of the G5 Sahel, is to regionally support police forces from the G5 countries to discover how to improve synergies and cooperation. The G5 police workshop includes representatives of internal security forces from all the G5 countries, as well as top members of all three Nigerien Internal Security forces, the police, gendarmerie, and the national guard.

Over the three days participants will learn from experiences from each of the five countries of Chad, Mauretania, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali, as well as from other international partners such as EUCAP Sahel Niger, the Dutch Government, UNODC and INTERPOL.

During the opening of the workshop, Antje Pittelkau, the Head of Mission ad interim of EUCAP Sahel Niger, thanked the authorities of Niger for hosting the event, and mentioned the need for increased partnerships and cooperation to help all five countries improve overall security and deal with terrorism, drugs and arms smuggling, trafficking in humans and irregular migration.
